About Dr B Alan Wallace:
has studied and practised Tibetan Buddhism for over 40 years. He is a direct student of His Holiness the Dalai Lama; his principal Dzogchen (Great Perfection) teacher is the Venerable Gyatrul Rinpoche. He has studied with many other great Yogis and Lamas. He is fluent in Tibetan and has translated many texts. His PhD is in religious studies, and he has a profound knowledge of the Christian mystical tradition also. Alan is today a world-renowned meditation teacher, he specialises in Shamatha, Vipashyana and Dzogchen teachings. Alan is also the Founder of the Santa Barbara Institute for Consciousness Studies, which is dedicated to furthering interdisciplinary and cross-cultural investigation of the nature and potentials of consciousness and extending its benefits to the general public. Recently he also founded the Thanyapura Mind Centre, Phuket, where he regularly teaches eight-week Shamatha retreats, which grew out of the Shamatha Project. The Cultivating Emotional Balance Teacher Training course is also taught at the Mind Centre.
About the Workshop:
This day is open to all, but will be an introduction to Shamatha meditation as a way to balance the mind and calm compulsive thinking and is geared to people new to Dr Wallace’s teaching. He will also explore the requisites for a balanced spiritual life and the importance of following a clear path. The day will consist of teaching, periods of guided meditation and time for questions and discussion.
